About Maps and Level Design
I get a lot of questions about this so I figured I would address it here. Maps are custom levels for various video games. What I do (for the most part) doesn't have anything to do with the characters or enemies or weapons. Simply the world in which those things exist. In order to play one of my maps, you must own the game that the map was made for. So unless you own Left 4 Dead, you won't be able to play bedrooms3: Bite Size. If you do own the game, each map comes with installation instructions to get you started.
About Kid Ying
My real name is Jacob Byrd. Kid Ying is an internet alias I picked out years ago. It is the name of the hero in one of my favorite games growing up, Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Later I would find out that the character's true name is Goemon, but Kid Ying stuck. Now over ten years later, I'm still using it.
I currently work as a Information Technology Specialist for the US Army. I'm a Sergeant with about 7 years in, but I still don't know if I want to stay in or get out. I've been assigned to the 82d Airborne Division and Joint Task Force - Global Network Operations. While I was with the 82d, I did a 15 month tour in Iraq. Fun times.
I am a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). I have experience in many aspects of information technology; information assurance, troubleshooting, hardware issues, networking, and domain management are some of the fields I have worked in. I also know HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP, and some C++ and Javascript.
So that's the professional side, what about everything else? As you may have noticed, I like to make levels for different video games. I tend to gravitate towards more outlandish themes, my favorite being the "bedrooms" style where the player is a fraction of their normal size.
It's a hobby that I started playing around with back with Quake 2 in 1998. During high school I was very active, but the added complexity of today's maps and my demanding work schedule don't leave a lot of time for mapping.
My other big hobby is this website. I'm always tweaking and changing things. I probably work on the site more than my maps. Some of my other hobbies include playing guitar, bass guitar and running (love/hate relationship there).
